Find records by matched fields

Search can find a record through a configured reference field and then tell you why that record matched.

Search with a reference

  1. Select Search near the top of the left navigation.
  2. Enter at least two characters from the reference you have.
  3. Review the explanation below each result.
  4. Compare any extra context, amount, or status shown on similar results.
  5. Select the record that matches your source document.

The explanation can begin with Matched ... and name the field that produced the result. The exact field name comes from the record and schema, so it can differ between companies.

Use list search for a narrower job

The global palette searches across record types. If you already know which list contains the record, open that list and use its Search control instead. You can then combine the search with Filter, Sort, Columns, scopes, saved views, and pagination when that list provides them.

What you should see

The matching text is highlighted in the result label or explanation. Selecting the result opens its detail page when that record has one.

If something goes wrong

  • If a known reference does not match, try a shorter part of the value because the field may be formatted differently.
  • If two results look alike, compare the context line and status before opening one.
  • If the record belongs to another company, switch companies and search again.
